Engineering Manager, Experimentation

About the role

Lead a team focused on LaunchDarkly's core Experimentation product. You will guide the development of systems that enable customers to set up, manage, and analyze experiments with confidence. This role involves a blend of people leadership and technical direction.

What you'll do

Guide and support a team of engineers, focusing on their professional development and performance.

Collaborate with Product Management and Design to define and prioritize product roadmaps, making adjustments as needed.

Ensure the successful delivery of team projects, meeting quality and timeline expectations.

Work with other engineering groups on shared infrastructure and cross-team dependencies.

Communicate project status, potential issues, and progress to leadership and stakeholders.

Foster a collaborative team environment that minimizes silos and maximizes engagement.

Drive improvements in the reliability, monitoring, and incident response for production data systems.

Participate in hiring efforts to expand the team and maintain high engineering standards.

Requirements

3 or more years in software engineering, with at least 2 years managing backend or infrastructure engineers.

Demonstrated ability to work with Product Management to translate business objectives into actionable engineering plans with accurate estimates.

Strong communication skills, particularly for remote and distributed teams working across different time zones.

Proven experience in coaching engineers, including performance management, career pathing, and technical guidance.

Familiarity with observability practices such as metrics, tracing, alerting, and structured logging, along with experience in production incident response.

Nice to have

Experience with Go or similar backend languages like Java, Python, or Rust.

Knowledge of data warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks) and data pipeline tools (Airflow, Prequel).

Compensation ranges vary by US geographic zone:

Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area, NYC Metro, Boston, Seattle): $191,800 - $263,670

Zone 2 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago): $172,600 - $237,270

Zone 3 (All other US locations): $163,000 - $224,070

All zones include a target 10% bonus.
