About the role
Join LaunchDarkly's growing legal department to support our expanding business. You will work closely with sales and other departments, managing commercial agreements and providing legal guidance in a dynamic environment. This role is key to our mission of building a collaborative and service-oriented legal team.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Draft and negotiate a variety of customer agreements, including SaaS contracts, data processing agreements, and partnership documents.
- Manage and review vendor contracts.
- Offer clear legal advice to non-legal professionals on contract terms, with a focus on security and data privacy.
- Contribute to the development and upkeep of legal resources like contract templates and playbooks.
- Support process improvements within the department and assist with training materials.
- Build strong working relationships with business stakeholders to ensure efficient contract review and provide practical legal solutions.
- Advise business leaders on legal, regulatory, and compliance risks.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of a contract management system.
- Address general legal needs of the company as they arise.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team atmosphere.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar admission.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in sales-side transactional law, gained at a law firm or in-house, with a preference for some in-house experience.
- Familiarity with SaaS contracting models, including data privacy and revenue recognition considerations.
- Must be located in or able to work primarily during Eastern Time Zone hours to support EMEA customers.
- Demonstrated ability to draft agreements with precision and efficiency.
- Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to clearly articulate company positions.
- Flexibility and sound judgment, especially in ambiguous situations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change in a fast-paced company.
- Proven success in collaborative, cross-functional projects.
- Excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally.
- A team-oriented mindset with a commitment to building relationships.
- A proactive approach to learning and problem-solving.
Nice to have
- Previous experience working with a rapidly scaling company.
- Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects.
- Familiarity with contract management software like Ironclad.
- Experience with tools such as DocuSign, Confluence, and Salesforce/CPQ.

- Salary ranges are determined by geographic zones:
- Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area, NYC Metro, Boston, Seattle): $136,000 - $187,000
- Zone 2 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago): $122,000 - $168,000
- Zone 3 (All other US locations): $116,000 - $159,000
- Compensation includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, dental insurance, and mental health benefits.
