About the role
We are looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team, where you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of network infrastructure for a prominent AI cloud provider. In this position, you will be responsible for developing systems, services, and automation solutions that facilitate software-defined networking across both data centers and cloud environments. This role will require you to engage deeply with the Linux networking stack and tackle intricate challenges associated with distributed systems.

- Develop automation tools and processes to streamline network setup and deployment, ensuring efficiency and repeatability.
- Manage and implement Software Defined Networking (SDN) services and control-plane software, enhancing network functionality.
- Engineer network services that are highly available, utilizing observability, failover mechanisms, and redundancy strategies.
- Ensure consistent network performance for clients by delivering software-driven solutions tailored to their needs.
- Create, integrate, and maintain tools for network monitoring and management, enhancing operational oversight.
- Participate in on-call rotations, contributing to incident response efforts and developing tools to improve network reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve network issues, ensuring seamless service delivery.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in software engineering, particularly in systems, infrastructure, or networking domains.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing production-scale Software Defined Networking (SDN) systems, with functionalities akin to AWS VPC, including routing, security groups, overlays, and peering.
- Hands-on experience in building and maintaining SDN platforms utilizing OpenStack Neutron, OVN, or comparable network virtualization frameworks.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Linux networking stack, encompassing namespaces, routing, iptables/nftables, network virtualization, SR-IOV, and DPDK, approached from a systems programming perspective.
- Strong command of the Linux command line and a solid understanding of networking principles from a software engineering standpoint.
- Proven experience in multi-data center and hybrid cloud networking environments, with a focus on automation and software-driven control planes.
- At least 5 years of software development experience in languages such as C, Go, or Python, specifically for network services, tooling, and automation.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment systems, Git, and GitOps practices for infrastructure or network configuration.
- Previous involvement in on-call rotations and incident response, along with experience in developing tools to enhance network or system reliability.
- Experience in deploying, operating, and automating applications on Kubernetes, including creating supporting services or tooling for networking and lifecycle management.
Nice to have
- Experience in automating network configurations in public cloud environments using tools such as Kubernetes, HELM, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Knowledge of the SDN ecosystem, including OVS, Neutron, VMware NSX, Cisco ACI, or Nexus Fabric Controller, and programmatic integration.
- Familiarity with building automation around Spine and Leaf (Clos) network topologies.
- Understanding of BGP EVPN VXLAN networks, with experience in automating configuration or monitoring tasks.
- Background in constructing and managing multi-data center networks, SD-WAN, DWDM, and related automation processes.
- Experience in integrating and automating policies and configurations for Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW).
