Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) at Kratos Defense and Security Solutions.
About the role
5-D Systems is looking for an engineer to join our team in Round Rock, Texas, to support our growing portfolio of unmanned, jet-powered aircraft programs. You will work within a small, collaborative group to build real-time avionics software and custom testing tools for both laboratory and flight-line environments.

What you'll do
- Create and maintain software for aircraft platforms and associated testing equipment.
- Perform software integration and testing in both virtual high-fidelity simulations and actual flight environments.
- Author design documentation and maintain compliance with internal development processes.
- Draft software test plans and procedures to verify system requirements.
- Collaborate on the planning, design, and deployment of complex systems to meet customer specifications.
- Conduct peer reviews and perform technical research or trade studies.
Requirements
- Bachelor or master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field with a strong background in software development.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in embedded systems software development.
- Proficiency in object-oriented C++ programming.
- Ability to interface software with hardware peripherals.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret clearance or higher.
Nice to have
- Experience with feedback control systems.
- Background in the aerospace or defense sectors.
- Knowledge of mission-critical or safety-critical software development.
- Familiarity with Linux-based embedded environments.
- Experience following DO-178C development standards.
- Proficiency in Simulink for system modeling and simulation.
- Experience designing test and measurement systems.
- Systems engineering background.
