About the role
Join Kraken's Core Infrastructure Engineering team to build, secure, and operate the network and data center infrastructure for a leading cryptocurrency exchange. This role is for a proactive, security-focused engineer who can automate repetitive tasks and contribute to a fast-paced environment. You will help design and maintain the critical systems that support Kraken's global operations.

What you'll do
- Design and construct data centers, including physical setup, power, cabling, and hardware installation.
- Manage network connectivity, including carrier coordination, circuit delivery, and capacity planning.
- Implement and evolve modern data center fabrics like Cisco ACI and HPE Juniper Apstra.
- Develop and maintain a secure, "zero-trust" network architecture with a focus on firewalls, policies, and segmentation.
- Implement and refine enterprise network access controls, ensuring role-based access and least privilege.
- Collaborate with engineering and IT security to integrate security into product development from the start.
- Respond to infrastructure requests for provisioning, access, and troubleshooting, ensuring timely resolution.
- Monitor and maintain all physical and cloud infrastructure, responding to incidents to maximize uptime.
- Deploy infrastructure as code and build automation tools and internal utilities to enhance team efficiency.
- Create high-quality technical documentation and mentor others on secure network practices.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in network engineering with a strong security focus.
- Practical experience with firewalls, specifically Palo Alto Networks / PAN-OS / Panorama.
- Hands-on experience with data center physical infrastructure, including racking, cabling, and hardware installation.
- Working knowledge of switching concepts (VLANs, capacity planning) and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, ECMP, PBR).
- Exposure to public cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and Ansible, with a preference for automation.
- Comfortable managing VPN and remote access connectivity.
- Strong inclination to automate repetitive tasks and a high sense of ownership for operational details.
- Experience with industry-standard platforms from vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Cisco, HPE Juniper Networking, and HPE Aruba Networking.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel internationally as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale data center design and build, including multi-site deployments and carrier management.
- Expertise in data center fabric design, including Cisco ACI or HPE Juniper Apstra.
- Deep knowledge of firewall design and operations, including multi-site policy and HA clusters with PAN-OS/Panorama.
- Experience building AI agents or developer tools to reduce operational load, such as for triage or runbook automation.
- Knowledge of defensive security systems, including IDS/IPS, security monitoring, and security testing.
- Extensive public, private, or hybrid cloud experience, including owning IaC pipelines end-to-end.
