Software Engineer - Commodities

About the role

Kpler provides data intelligence for the energy, maritime, and commodities industries. You will join the Cargo Movements team to build and scale the data pipelines and backend systems that power our global trade insights.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Build and improve backend services, APIs, and application features.
• Write secure, tested, and clean code according to engineering standards.
• Participate in technical design sessions and provide input on implementation strategies.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues in both production and development environments.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and analysts to define and deliver product requirements.
• Review peer code and maintain technical documentation for features and operational workflows.

Requirements

• Professional experience using Python for data integration, transformation, or processing workflows.
• Knowledge of ETL principles, including streaming, batch, or asynchronous data processing.
• Experience working with relational databases and SQL.
• Background in maintaining or developing backend services and APIs.
• Proficiency with software development workflows such as CI/CD, Git, automated testing, and code reviews.
• Basic familiarity with Docker for containerization.
• Ability to debug production systems and communicate technical blockers effectively.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Experience with additional backend languages like Scala, Java, or Node.js.
• Front-end development skills using TypeScript or JavaScript, specifically with the Vue.js framework.
• Cloud infrastructure experience, preferably with AWS.
• Familiarity with event-streaming or message-broker tools like Kafka.
• Exposure to search and indexing technologies like Elasticsearch.
