Senior Software Engineer (Python) at Kpler.
About the role
Kpler is transforming how global trade data is processed by evolving its Supply and Demand platform to support a wider range of commodities. We are looking for a senior engineer to lead the technical architecture of this transition, moving from crude oil specialization to a scalable, unified model.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Direct the technical strategy for generalizing the data model across all commodity types.
- Refactor the existing ETL framework into a reusable foundation to prevent pipeline fragmentation.
- Manage end-to-end publication reliability, including anomaly detection, release paths, and data quality standards.
- Improve non-functional requirements such as latency, security, and cost across our Python and TypeScript systems.
- Define and maintain versioned API contracts for external client data distribution.
- Facilitate design reviews and document architectural decisions for complex, business-critical projects.
- Lead incident response efforts and implement preventative measures to ensure long-term system stability.
- Collaborate with Product and Research teams to define the technical roadmap.
- Provide mentorship to mid-level engineers and serve as a technical consultant across the engineering organization.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience with production-grade systems.
- Proven track record of delivering complex, ambiguous projects from design through to production outcomes.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, specifically regarding ETL, orchestration, and relational data modeling with SQL and Postgres.
- Experience with the full production lifecycle, including observability, on-call rotations, and incident remediation.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and act as a primary advisor for architectural decisions.
Nice to have
- Proficiency with Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
- Experience with TypeScript and NestJS APIs.
- Background in commodities, energy, finance, or logistics domains where data model accuracy is central to the product.
- Familiarity with data quality gating and anomaly detection methodologies.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices, including Terraform, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.
