Oil Market Analyst

About the role

Kpler is seeking an analyst to manage and refine data regarding dirty petroleum products such as fuel oil, VGO, feedstocks, and bitumen. You will serve as the primary expert for these markets, ensuring high data integrity while collaborating with internal technical and commercial departments.

What you'll do

• Manage the full lifecycle of data quality and coverage for specific DPP markets and regions.
• Conduct deep-dive investigations into data discrepancies to resolve underlying issues.
• Oversee large-scale data validation and backtesting against external benchmarks.
• Serve as the main point of contact for Data Ops, coordinating with Engineering and Product teams.
• Spot coverage gaps and launch projects to increase data granularity.
• Apply market expertise to validate data accuracy and guide necessary corrections.
• Ensure consistency across product lines including S&D, Refineries, Freight, and Flows.
• Lead complex product improvement initiatives.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
• Collaborate with Sales and Customer Success teams to incorporate client feedback into product development.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Engineering, Economics, Data Science, Energy, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience within oil markets, specifically with refined products or crude.
• Comprehensive knowledge of refinery operations, global trade flows, and shipping.
• Demonstrated success in managing large, complex datasets and enhancing data quality.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects from start to finish.

Nice to have

• Specific expertise in DPP arbitrage, infrastructure, and market flows.
• Experience working with vessel tracking, satellite, or geospatial data.
• Familiarity with data architecture, scraping, or pipeline concepts.
