Engineering Manager

About the role

Kpler is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead teams within our Commodities Tribe. You will oversee the modernization of our core platforms, transitioning them toward a modular and AI-native architecture while fostering a high-performance engineering culture.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Lead the migration of our platform, ensuring engineers understand and adopt the new architectural direction.
• Collaborate with product and domain stakeholders to define roadmaps focused on data quality and business value.
• Mentor senior engineers and Technical Leads, delegating decision-making while maintaining accountability.
• Balance roadmap delivery with the management of technical debt and overall platform health.
• Establish operational standards, including incident response, on-call rotations, and system observability.
• Manage team growth through hiring, performance coaching, and capability planning.
• Maintain sufficient technical insight to challenge assumptions and support sound architectural choices.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams, either in a formal management role or as a senior contributor responsible for delivery and people development.
• Strong background in backend, data, or distributed systems with the ability to review designs and coach others.
• Demonstrated success in translating business priorities into technical outcomes alongside product stakeholders.
• Experience managing production systems, including monitoring, alerting, and post-incident improvements.
• Ability to set clear goals and foster a culture of end-to-end engineering ownership.
• Experience with technical interviewing and candidate assessment.

Nice to have

• Background in modernizing or re-architecting long-standing production systems.
• Experience with data-intensive or event-driven systems, including Kafka, data pipelines, or ML-adjacent technologies.
• Proficiency in Python and JVM-based languages like Java or Scala.
• Experience influencing product roadmaps rather than executing predefined requirements.
• Background in commodities, energy, logistics, or financial markets.
