Environmental Compliance Specialist

About the role

Hims & Hers is looking for an on-site Environmental Compliance Specialist to manage environmental programs at our Menlo Park, California facility. You will work independently to oversee hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, and stormwater compliance while reporting to senior corporate leadership. This role requires a hands-on professional capable of managing regulatory interactions and ensuring the site meets all California-specific environmental standards.

What you'll do

• Manage daily environmental operations including hazardous waste storage, labeling, inspections, and shipment coordination.
• Prepare and submit reports and permit applications through regulatory portals like CERS and SMARTS.
• Maintain compliance calendars for air quality, industrial wastewater, stormwater, Tier II, CalARP, and SB-14 requirements.
• Coordinate with waste disposal vendors and monitor their performance.
• Perform facility assessments to ensure compliance with CARB, DTSC, SWRCB, and local AQMD regulations.
• Update the Hazardous Materials Business Plan and manage chemical inventories and SDS documentation.
• Assist with air permit conditions, emissions tracking, and refrigerant management programs.
• Oversee industrial wastewater discharge monitoring and stormwater inspections under the Industrial General Permit.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agency inspections and internal audits.
• Develop and deliver environmental training for site personnel and maintain accurate training records.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or Chemistry.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in environmental compliance.
• Proven track record as a primary compliance lead in a regulated setting such as pharmaceutical, biotech, compounding pharmacy, peptide manufacturing, medical device, or chemical processing.
• Deep knowledge of RCRA/DTSC, air quality regulations, industrial wastewater, stormwater, and California-specific programs like CalARP and SB-14.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage complex regulatory obligations.
• Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies, vendors, and internal teams.

Nice to have

• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
• Qualified SWPPP Developer/Practitioner (QSD/QSP) status.
• CESCO or OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001, occupational health and safety (OSHA/Cal/OSHA), and USP standards.
• Experience with environmental due diligence or multi-site compliance projects.

Skills & tools

• Compliance frameworks: RCRA, DTSC, CARB, CalARP, SB-14, SWRCB IGP, AQMD permitting.
