Director of Performance Marketing
Job description
Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money - bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses.
Relay's performance marketing team runs one of the most analytically sophisticated paid programs in the SMB fintech space - operating across paid search, paid social, affiliate, CTV, and direct mail with a $2-3M monthly budget. Your mission: make every dollar work harder, build the measurement infrastructure to prove it, and grow a team that can execute at the pace Relay moves.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own Relay's full paid media portfolio - paid search, paid social, affiliate, CTV, linear TV, and direct mail. Set channel strategy, budget allocation, and performance targets across brand and performance objectives. Hold the team accountable to both.
- Directly manage and develop a team of performance marketers, owning hiring, leveling, performance management, and growth pathways while coaching on channel mechanics, creative strategy, and business impact.
- Lead Relay's TV and CTV strategy, partnering with Brand and Creative on messaging and measurement. Build the attribution infrastructure that connects upper-funnel investment to downstream efficiency.
- Drive paid search and paid social programs with a bias toward continuous experimentation - audience segmentation, creative testing, bidding strategy, and landing page optimization across both PLG and sales-assisted conversion paths.
- Own the affiliate program end-to-end, including partner recruitment, commission structure, compliance, and performance management. Identify non-obvious distribution partners in the SMB ecosystem.
- Work with the data team to build and maintain Relay's measurement infrastructure across paid channels - media mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, and incrementality testing. Own the methodology and use it to strengthen decision making.
- Own paid media budget modeling, pacing, and forecasting, partnering with Finance on plans that hold up under scrutiny and flex intelligently as performance data comes in.
Who You Are
- 8+ years in performance marketing or paid media, with at least 2 years managing a team, ideally at a high-growth SaaS, fintech, or subscription business.
- You've owned a multi-million dollar monthly paid media budget and can walk through how you've allocated across channels, how your thinking evolved, and what you'd do differently.
- You are an expert in attribution - you can walk through an incrementality test you've designed, a media mix model you've commissioned, or an attribution debate you've settled. You don't accept last-click as an answer.
- Deep hands-on fluency in at least two of: paid search, paid social, CTV/programmatic, or affiliate - with working knowledge across the rest.
- You've driven acquisition into both PLG and sales-assisted funnels and understand how channel mix, creative, and landing experience need to flex depending on which motion you're feeding.
- Strong communicator who can translate channel data into business narrative - you've made a budget ask to a CFO or CEO that landed.
- SQL and AI-fluent in how you and your team work - using it to accelerate analysis, creative iteration, reporting, and audience research.
Bonus Points
- Experience in a regulated industry (fintech, healthcare, insurance) - you know how to run aggressive acquisition programs within compliance constraints
- Experience marketing to small business owners or self-employed professionals
- Experience with direct mail as an acquisition channel
- A public POV on performance marketing, attribution, or media strategy
The Interview Process
- Stage 1: 45-minute video call with a member of the Talent team
- Stage 2: 60-minute video call with the VP of Marketing
- Stage 3: 60-minute Live Scenario with the Marketing team
- Stage 4: Values interview with a member of the Leadership team
