Job description

At Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, we empower developers and businesses with the fastest PostgreSQL platform designed for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Trusted globally by thousands of organizations, Tiger accelerates real-time insights, drives intelligent applications, and powers critical infrastructure at scale. As a globally distributed, remote-first team committed to direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence, we're shaping the future of data infrastructure, built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity.

As Commercial Finance Lead at Tiger Data 🐯, you'll connect commercial strategy, operating performance, and financial planning across Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Data, and Finance.

This isn't a traditional FP&A or Revenue Operations role. You'll own the forward-looking commercial model, connecting pipeline, conversion, customer usage, retention, expansion, and capacity to our growth targets. You'll identify risks early, evaluate investments, and provide FP&A with the operating assumptions that inform the company's financial forecast.

Reporting to the Head of FP&A and embedded in commercial leadership discussions, you'll maintain the independence to challenge assumptions while staying close enough to the business to influence outcomes.

📍 This role is remote. Due to the team's location, we are open to candidates in North American time zones, ideally the East Coast. Fluency in English is required.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE:

- Owning the forward-looking commercial model and bottoms-up forecast, including its data, methodology, and assumptions across pipeline, conversion, customer usage, retention, expansion, sales capacity, and timing.

- Providing FP&A with the commercial outlook and operating assumptions used to forecast revenue, spending, margin, and cash.

- Building complex cohort and financial dashboards covering acquisition channels, customer profiles, conversion, usage, churn, expansion, and unit economics.

- Identifying leading indicators, pressure-testing growth targets, and flagging risks before they appear in financial results.

- Analyzing performance against plan and translating underlying drivers into risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.

- Evaluating investments across sales capacity, marketing programs, customer expansion, partnerships, and new routes to market.

- Supporting pricing, promotions, and discounting decisions through analysis of customer value, revenue quality, consumption behavior, and margin.

- Partnering with Revenue Operations, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and FP&A to align assumptions, set targets, identify investment needs, and drive action.

- Preparing clear, executive-ready materials for leadership and Board discussions, communicating conclusions, assumptions, and recommendations in an easily digestible manner.

- Applying emerging AI technologies to accelerate analysis, improve forecasting, and expand your capacity for high-leverage work.

YOU COULD BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

- Have 6+ years of experience across Commercial Finance, business operations, strategy, sales, marketing, or data roles in a SaaS or technology company.

- Understand consumption-based models and how pipeline, conversion, usage, retention, and expansion drive revenue.

- Have built detailed operational forecasts and can translate commercial activity into a forward-looking growth outlook.

- Are highly analytical, with strong financial modeling, Excel, BI, and data skills.

- Understand SaaS and cloud economics, including gross margin, retention, expansion, CAC, payback, lifetime value, and sales productivity.

- Can connect fragmented data across commercial, product, and financial systems into a coherent view of the customer and business.

- Look beyond lagging results to identify the leading indicators most predictive of future performance.

- Can challenge assumptions, align senior leaders, and influence without direct authority.

- Are comfortable moving between detailed analysis and C-suite discussions.

- Believe organizations are strongest when they reflect the diversity of the world around them, and actively work to make that a reality.

You might not be a great fit if:

- Your experience is limited to P&L reporting, budgeting, or Board preparation.

- You prefer maintaining Salesforce processes and operational workflows.

- You focus on reporting what happened rather than determining what is likely to happen next.

- You're uncomfortable challenging senior stakeholders or driving cross-functional action.

- You need complete data or rigidly defined responsibilities to move forward.

This is an opportunity to build Tiger Data's commercial forecasting capability and shape growth before it appears in the financial results. If you're excited to combine financial rigor, commercial judgment, and cross-functional leadership, we want to hear from you.
