Role Overview:

At Brigit, our Data Science team has been dramatically scaling its impact. We're aiming to integrate new models across several product domains over the next year and continue to iterate and optimize in the areas of credit risk and payments, where we already have models deployed. We are looking for a leader to enable continued adoption of AI-assisted development and agentic workflows in how the team builds, evaluates, documents, and ships data science work. Doing this will require our team to grow, but it will also require a more concerted effort to plan and integrate with product teams, understand their roadmap, and explore projects that make sense in this context. To support this growth, we'd like to hire a motivated Director of Data Science to grow and lead this team to its maximum potential.

What you'll be doing:

- Managing and growing a team of data scientists focused on modeling key business problems.

- Mentoring and guiding team members as they build out quantitative models in python using industry-standard techniques.

- Evangelizing the data science team's capabilities and integrating with product, engineering and operations teams to build a roadmap and backlog of data science solutions with business impact.

- Running quarterly planning with the engagement of business stakeholders to ensure that the team is running in the right direction.

- Helping lead the team's adoption of AI-assisted development and agentic workflows, including identifying practical use cases, setting working norms, and ensuring these tools are used with appropriate review, validation, privacy, and quality standards.

- Working closely with our Modeling Engineer to optimize and improve our infrastructure for model research, development and deployment.

What you have:

- 2+ years of Data Science management with a team of >3

- 5+ years of modeling/data science experience overall

- 2+ years of experience at a consumer product company

- Deep technical expertise in SQL and Python, with experience in analytics and machine learning tools (dbt, Airflow, Spark, MLflow, etc.)

- Experience applying predictive modeling to credit risk assessment, churn prediction, loss and revenue forecasting is beneficial.

- A Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or Applied Mathematics) is strongly preferred

- Strong communication skills, with the ability to distill complex analysis into actionable insights for commercial and executive stakeholders

- A passion for developing talent and building a high-impact culture rooted in accountability, data-driven decisions, and business outcomes

- Hands-on familiarity with modern AI-assisted coding and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or similar, with a strong point of view on how these tools can improve data science productivity, quality, and business impact.
