LEGAL COUNSEL

As a Legal Counsel at SkyNRG you work on real-world projects driving the transition to sustainable aviation. You'll handle complex, high-impact work at the heart of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, alongside experienced legal and project teams. This is a role for legal professionals who want responsibility, challenge and the chance to help change the future of flying.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Based in our office at Nieuwmarkt in Amsterdam this role provides hands-on legal support to development and construction of large-scale SAF projects, with exposure to non-resource project financing structures and cross-boarder contractual arrangements.

As part of the Legal & Compliance Team, you will work closely with project teams will be exposed to complex, high-impact legal work across the SAF value chain, while operating as a trusted business partner who balances legal rigor with commercial practicality. This role reports to the Deputy General Counsel based in Amsterdam.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Agreements and Construction Support: Support project teams throughout the full project lifecycle (development, financing, execution/construction and operations. Draft, review and negotiate complex projects agreements, including technology licensing, FEED and EPC, offtake, feedstock sourcing, and site, utilities and operations & maintenance. Advise on bankability and contractual risk allocation, including delay, performance guarantees and liquidated damages.
  • Construction Phase Management: Support contract administration during construction, including change orders and variation claims; notices, waivers and dispute mitigation; and contractor performance issues. Proactively identify and assess legal risks affecting costs, schedule and financing. Provide legal support on applicable regulations and permits.
  • Project Finance & Lender Interface: Support compliance with financing arrangements; monitor and advise on conditions precedent and subsequent requirements, drawdown mechanics and construction milestones, as well as covenants and reporting obligations. Review and coordinate lender consent requirements for material project changes.
  • Stakeholder coordination: Work closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors. Translate complex legal issues into practical, business-oriented advice.
  • Knowledge Management: Contribute to lessons-learned and continuous improvements initiatives across projects. Support the development of internal templates and best practices.

YOUR PROFILE

You recognize yourself in the following, and you have:

  • A Master's degree in Law
  • 4-8 years of relevant work experience (law firm and/or in-house) including a minimum of 3 years focused on EPC in energy/infrastructure projects
  • Strong drafting and negotiating skills, with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
  • Sound judgement and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional project team
  • Team player, motivated by collaboration rather than competition
  • Ambition to contribute to the renewable energy transition, with a strong interest in SAF
  • Fluency in English & Dutch

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Exposure to project finance transactions, ideally within a non-recourse or limited-recourse financing structure
  • Experience working in or with scale-ups or fast-growing organizations
  • Familiarity with the oil & gas and/or aviation sectors
  • Prior involvement in claims management or dispute resolution (litigation, arbitrations, or adjudication)
