About the role
Handshake is seeking an early-career engineer to join our mobile team and help millions of students navigate their professional starts. You will work alongside four senior engineers who are dedicated to your technical growth and mentorship as you transition toward an Engineer II role.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage features from initial concept through design, implementation, and App Store deployment.
- Develop using Swift and SwiftUI while maintaining existing UIKit components within an MVVM and Coordinator architecture.
- Integrate GraphQL and REST services to power student-facing surfaces.
- Participate in a weekly release cycle utilizing feature flags and staged rollouts.
- Write unit tests and contribute to acceptance testing to ensure high code quality.
- Collaborate on AI-integrated mobile features and utilize AI-assisted engineering tools in your daily workflow.
- Support high-traffic areas such as job discovery, career fairs, and student profiles.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional experience building and launching production iOS applications.
- Demonstrated ability to ship software to real users, whether through professional roles, internships, or substantial independent projects.
- Proficiency in modern iOS development, including Swift, MVVM patterns, networking, and asynchronous programming.
- Ability to explain the architecture, limitations, and design decisions behind your code.
- Strong communication skills for code reviews, design discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
- A proactive mindset with a history of iterating on projects based on feedback.
Nice to have
- Experience building consumer-facing applications at scale.
- Practical knowledge of both SwiftUI and UIKit.
- Familiarity with GraphQL, XCTest, or CI/CD pipelines like Fastlane.
- An existing application currently available on the App Store.
- Experience using A/B testing, analytics, or user feedback to drive development.
