About the role
You will be involved in the delivery of bespoke software solutions to assist our clients in achieving their business outcomes. You will provide technical direction for development, design, and systems integration for client engagement from ideation through to implementation and maintenance. You will actively engage in the delivery of projects, with either full Ippon teams, or as part of a broader client team. You will be proactively client-focussed and evangelise engagement effectively with stakeholders and users. You will create and execute development plans and revise them as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements throughout the lifecycle of the engagement. You will perform code reviews and mentor other developers to elevate the overall quality and craftsmanship of the solutions. You will challenge others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model in technical decisioning and communication. You will participate in engaging with the community through meetups and conferences; espousing the value of knowledge sharing and encouraging others to do the same. You will be part of a growing and dynamic team, helping to shape the direction of our company and influence our strategic trajectory.

What you'll do
- Architect and develop end-to-end features that drive measurable business value for enterprise clients across diverse industry sectors.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into concrete technical solutions by collaborating closely with product owners and stakeholders during discovery phases.
- Design and implement robust backend services using modern Java, C#, JavaScript, NodeJS, and Kotlin ecosystems to support scalable digital platforms.
- Build responsive user interfaces with React, leveraging Redux or Hooks-based state management, or Angular to deliver intuitive and engaging customer experiences.
- Integrate systems and services using proven patterns for microservices, FaaS, and API-led connectivity to ensure resilient and maintainable architectures.
- Establish and enforce quality gates by implementing comprehensive test-automation frameworks and performing rigorous code reviews to uphold engineering standards.
- Optimize the performance, security, and observability of cloud-native applications deployed predominantly within AWS environments.
- Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous learning through constructive feedback and collaborative code ownership.
- Contribute to the strategic technical roadmap by evaluating emerging tools and frameworks that can enhance delivery efficiency and client outcomes.
- Act as an ambassador for the company by participating in industry meetups and conferences to share insights and promote community growth.
- Adapt to evolving project requirements and pivot development efforts to align with shifting client priorities and market opportunities.
- Leverage Agile and Lean methodologies to deliver iterative value, refine backlogs, and ensure transparent communication across cross-functional teams.
- Utilize WebPack and equivalent bundlers to streamline asset compilation and optimize frontend build processes for production readiness.
- Implement solutions that harness data-driven insights to create digital experiences which engage users and support strategic business objectives.
Requirements
- You possess self-motivation and genuine excitement about working within a start-up consulting environment that values innovation and agility.
- You have a strong history of end-to-end software delivery, demonstrating competence across both front end and back end technologies.
- You are proficient with frontend technology stacks including React with Redux or Hooks-based state management, Angular, or native JavaScript web applications.
- You have substantial experience with backend technologies such as Java, C#, JavaScript, NodeJS, and Kotlin for building scalable services.
- You have demonstrated delivery of solutions leveraging microservices, FaaS, DevOps practices, continuous integration, and build automation approaches.
- You have proven experience with test-automation frameworks and methodologies to ensure quality and reduce regression risk.
- You have expertise in data and technology-driven digital experiences that solve complex business problems for enterprise clients.
- You have proven exposure to delivering cloud-native front-end applications, preferably within AWS, and using infrastructure-as-code practices.
- You have experience applying Agile and Lean approaches to digital product creation and value-driven delivery cycles.
Nice to have skills
- Experience with the Spring Framework, .NET, or Serverless Framework and the Serverless Application Model (SAM) for building event-driven applications.
- Developed applications using relational databases such as Postgres, MariaDB, and Oracle, as well as non-relational databases like DynamoDB and MongoDB.
- Industry experience using web-based authentication and authorisation mechanisms, including Oauth2 and OpenID Connect for secure access control.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based logging and monitoring software, such as Splunk, or AWS CloudWatch for operational visibility.

- This is a full-time employment position based in Melbourne.
- The engagement includes 4 weeks of annual leave.
