Senior Android Engineer, Shopper Activation and Engagement
About the role
This role focuses on building key features for our Android shopper application. You will directly influence the health of our marketplace by improving shopper activation, engagement, and overall experience. Join a team dedicated to the entire shopper journey.

What you'll do
- Develop and release high-quality Android features using Kotlin that enhance shopper activation, engagement, and retention.
- Take ownership of features from initial concept and technical design through to implementation, testing, and ongoing improvements.
- Work with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to define problems, establish metrics, conduct A/B tests, and make data-driven decisions to optimize marketplace performance.
- Contribute to and refine the application's architecture, implementing scalable patterns and maintainable code to boost developer efficiency and release stability.
- Enhance operational excellence by improving application performance, stability, monitoring, and observability.
- Collaborate with platform and service teams to integrate APIs, ensuring security, privacy, and trust are central to all user experiences.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience developing Android applications using Kotlin.
- At least 2 years of experience building consumer-facing application features at scale, such as those related to activation, onboarding, engagement, or earnings.
- Strong command of RxJava and Dagger, with practical experience using Jetpack Compose in production or during migration projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage features from start to finish, including technical design, implementation, testing, release, and iteration, resulting in measurable impact.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to define requirements, instrumentation, and success metrics.
- Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and concurrency. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with Kotlin Coroutines, Gradle build tools, and modern Android architectural patterns like MVVM/MVI and modularization.
- Prior experience in high-volume consumer marketplaces, logistics, or domains focused on growth and engagement, such as onboarding, retention, earnings, ratings, recognition, or trust and safety.
- Practical experience with experimentation and analytics tools, including A/B testing, feature flags, and metrics dashboards. Familiarity with SQL or BigQuery is beneficial.
- Proven ability to succeed in fast-paced, evolving environments, with a focus on ownership, operational discipline, and high-quality execution.
- Experience mentoring other engineers and improving team standards for code quality, testing, and observability.

- Application Notes: The base pay range for this remote role depends on the candidate's permanent work location. Currently, hiring is limited to the provinces of Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.
- Compensation: CAN $168,000 - $177,500 CAD
