About the role
ID.me is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead development of internal web applications that power Call Centers and Supervised Identity Verification flows. You will drive an AI-native engineering approach using Claude, Model Context Protocol, and Google Vertex AI to build agents that automate manual call center tasks. The work spans Ruby on Rails, GoLang, and LLM orchestration to create secure, AI-augmented authentication experiences for the digital identity wallet platform serving over 152 million users.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Define technical direction for integrating LLMs, specifically Claude, into member support applications and deploy autonomous agents that replace manual call center workflows
- Guide the evolution of verification UI flows for member support, incorporating AI-assisted tools into both agent and member experiences
- Build shared UI components and API patterns supporting scalable verification workflows across multiple products with AI-driven automation
- Maintain compliance with IAM, security, and data protection standards across all AI-powered automations
- Coach engineers on prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and full-stack development using Rails, Go, and React
- Run experiments including A/B tests comparing AI agent performance against manual processes and fraud detection through UX signals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
- 10+ years of full-stack engineering experience with demonstrated success scaling customer-facing applications
- 1+ years of hands-on work with LLM integration (Claude or OpenAI) and building agentic workflows, including familiarity with MCP or similar patterns for connecting LLMs to data sources
- 5+ years working with Ruby on Rails, GoLang, and React/TypeScript
Nice to have
- Strong grasp of component-driven design, state management, and secure backend development with PostgreSQL
- Track record of influencing cross-functional teams and setting technical direction in fast-moving environments
- Experience building or maintaining Human-in-the-loop AI systems in call center or support contexts
- Knowledge of identity verification, regulatory frameworks such as NIST and IAL2, or IAM digital security
- Familiarity with design systems, shared component libraries, and modular SDK architecture
- Background with data pipeline tools for feature flags, transformation, and secure data transmission
