Join the Wallet/Authentication Platform team at ID.me to shape the core sign-in and account management experiences used by over 140 million members. You will design and implement features that balance security and user experience at scale. This role is central to how millions of people access their digital identity online.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance the ID.me Wallet authentication system, including sign-in, registration, multi-factor authentication, account recovery, password resets, and MyWallet features.
• Independently lead the development of significant features from initial concept through to production deployment, collaborating with Product, Design, and Security teams.
• Enhance real-time risk and abuse detection mechanisms within authentication flows to prevent credential attacks and account takeovers while ensuring a smooth user experience.
• Uphold and advance security best practices in all aspects of development and contribute to the reliability and observability of authentication services.
• Integrate with various third-party services such as MFA providers and email/SMS delivery systems, as well as internal identity services and downstream partners.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers through code reviews and design discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience, with a focus on full-stack web engineering.
• At least 1 year of consistent daily use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor), demonstrating commitment to an AI-first engineering approach.
• 3 or more years of experience with Java and Spring Boot, including hands-on experience building and operating production web services.

Nice to have

• Proven ability to independently manage and deliver complex features from start to finish with minimal supervision.
• Experience with identity and authentication standards like OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, or FIDO2/WebAuthn.
• Familiarity with Identity Provider (IdP) or Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
• Knowledge of security best practices for handling credentials, session management, and token issuance.
• Experience developing or contributing to fraud detection or abuse mitigation systems.
• Experience with frontend frameworks such as React.
• Experience working in a fast-paced product environment with iterative releases and A/B testing.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.

• Salary Range: $190,978 - $221,668 USD annually. This range does not include bonuses, equity, or benefits.
