Senior Build & Platform Engineer

About the role

Hunter Bond is looking for a seasoned Build and Platform Engineer to enhance their team. In this position, you will focus on refining software delivery processes and developer infrastructure, particularly for large-scale applications built in C++ and Python. You will engage with various aspects of Platform Engineering, CI/CD, and automation to boost developer efficiency.

• Develop and implement tools that enhance developer efficiency.

• Maintain and optimize Build and Release infrastructure for extensive C++ and Python applications.
• Design and manage scalable CI/CD pipelines across different stages of the software development lifecycle.
• Work on automation and configuration management solutions.
• Create internal self-service tools for developers.
• Operate within containerized environments.
• Enhance observability within the build stack.
• Optimize and fine-tune CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement security best practices throughout the development process.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• In-depth experience in enhancing software delivery and developer productivity.
• Proficient in Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with build tools for C++ environments, such as CMake, Ninja, Bazel, or Buck2.
• Knowledge of Python packaging and dependency management tools like pip, conda, or similar.
• Extensive CI/CD experience, including design, testing, automation, artifact promotion, and managing failures.
• Experience with artifact repositories and lifecycle management, such as Artifactory, Nexus, or Harbor.
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience with container technologies, including Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or similar.
• Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash.
• Understanding of GitOps principles.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancing, and HTTP.
• Ability to gather requirements from developers and translate them into effective tooling solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience troubleshooting C++ build issues, including linkage and dependency problems.
• Skills in improving build reproducibility.
• Background in Python development.
• Experience with C++ or Rust programming languages.
• Familiarity with integrating AI-based tools into development workflows.

Practical notes

• Salary range is $150,000 to $250,000 plus bonuses.
