About the role
Join the Patient team to enhance the Patient Health Data Platform, which powers both patient and provider experiences. In this role, you will develop scalable backend solutions, contribute to design, and improve code quality through reviews and knowledge sharing. You will work independently on defined projects and deepen your operational practices.

What you'll do
- Design and build moderately complex, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet product needs.
- Create clear technical design documents, incorporating feedback, to guide implementation.
- Write modular, reusable, and testable code, ensuring adherence to squad testing standards (unit, integration, end-to-end, manual).
- Provide constructive feedback during code reviews, focusing on conventions, functionality, and test coverage.
- Address technical debt by contributing fixes, prioritizing tasks, and balancing them with new feature development.
- Participate in product discovery to assess feasibility, understand user needs, and validate ideas through prototypes and experiments.
- Collaborate with other engineers to ensure seamless integration and communication across systems and services.
- Implement basic observability (logging, monitoring, alerting) for developed systems and resolve minor performance or reliability issues.
- Break down medium-complexity projects into actionable tasks and drive them from planning to delivery, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to identify and act on improvement opportunities.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for your systems and processes.
- Share knowledge with peers, suggest workflow and tool improvements, and propose ideas for continuous improvement within your squad.
- Assist in the hiring process through technical screens or interviews and mentor new hires or interns on fundamental technical skills.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a software engineer, delivering production code.
- Experience contributing to backend distributed systems and services.
- Familiarity with microservice architectures.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience building scalable web applications and services, preferably in the cloud.
- Working experience deploying and hosting front ends and microservices on Kubernetes and AWS.
- Experience with agile software development and delivery.
- Experience with CI/CD processes, including automated unit and integration tests.
- Experience with relational databases; PostgreSQL is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a developing ability to critically evaluate trade-offs in performance, cost, and complexity.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective teamwork within a squad.
- Ability to take ownership of work, adapt to ambiguity, and make consistent progress with minimal supervision.
Nice to have
- Experience with healthcare technology, wearables, or connected device data.
- Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (React, React Native, NextJS, GraphQL).
- Experience with Node.js, Redis, or Kotlin.
- Web performance optimization experience.
