Senior Scientist, R&D at hims-and-hers.
About the role
Hims and Hers is hiring a Senior Scientist to join the LABS team in an individual contributor capacity. You will report to the Director of R&D to lead the development and validation of diagnostic assays for both traditional and at-home testing initiatives. This is an on-site laboratory position focused on taking projects from initial feasibility through to clinical implementation.

What you'll do
- Design and execute immunoassay studies including ELISA, chemiluminescent, and multiplex formats.
- Conduct method validation for precision, accuracy, linearity, interference, and stability.
- Apply statistical methodologies and Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize assays and troubleshoot performance.
- Develop and validate LC-MS/MS methods for hormone and clinical chemistry analytes.
- Create and update SOPs to maintain reproducible laboratory standards.
- Process biological matrices including serum, plasma, and whole blood collected via at-home devices like Tasso and YourBio Health.
- Operate and maintain SCIEX 4500MD or equivalent mass spectrometry systems.
- Support high-throughput workflows on Roche Cobas Pro, Sysmex, and liquid handling automation platforms.
- Analyze experimental data to calculate total allowable error, bias, and precision.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.
Requirements
- PhD in Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or related field with 4+ years of experience; OR Master's degree with 7+ years; OR Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant bench experience.
- Hands-on background in immunoassay development.
- Experience with LC-MS/MS sample preparation and method validation.
- Experience working with both capillary and venous blood specimens.
- Proven track record of leading verification and validation studies.
- Proficiency in applying DOE and statistical tools to laboratory development.
Nice to have
- Experience in CAP or CLIA regulated laboratory environments.
- Background in at-home or point-of-care diagnostic programs.
- Familiarity with dried blood spot (DBS) workflows and stability testing.
- Knowledge of biomarker categories related to longevity, metabolic health, and consumer wellness.
- Experience with NGS library preparation and bioinformatics data review.
