Principal Engineer (Fullstack/Backend)

We are looking for a senior technical leader to guide our architectural direction and drive innovation across engineering. This role involves shaping our long-term technical strategy, enabling teams to build scalable systems, and aligning engineering efforts with business objectives.

What you'll do

• Define and advance the architectural vision for customer-facing platforms, ensuring alignment with company strategy and addressing long-term scalability and system integration.
• Establish best practices and frameworks to maintain high standards for quality, resilience, and operational efficiency across the engineering organization.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to influence product direction and ensure the architecture effectively supports strategic goals.
• Mentor senior technical leaders and champion initiatives that enhance engineering expertise and foster a culture of continuous learning.
• Navigate complex and unclear technical challenges, clarifying direction and removing organizational obstacles to accelerate the delivery of key initiatives.
• Translate customer needs and product goals into robust, scalable technical solutions, embedding customer focus into the platform's design.
• Design systems and team structures that support sustainable growth, prioritizing non-functional requirements like observability and reliability.

Requirements

• A minimum of 15 years in professional software engineering, with extensive experience in architecture and delivering large-scale backend systems.
• Demonstrated success in influencing technical strategy and leading cross-functional technical initiatives at an organizational level.
• Experience with backend languages such as Kotlin, Java, or Go, coupled with a strong grasp of system design for performance and scale.
• Full-stack capabilities, including frontend experience with modern frameworks like React, Next, and GraphQL.
• Proven ability to introduce and scale shared infrastructure, frameworks, or libraries across multiple development teams.
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CircleCI, GitHub), cloud environments (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes), and observability tools (e.g., Datadog).
• A track record of driving architectural clarity and technical alignment across different departments.
• Experience translating customer and clinical requirements into reliable, maintainable, and impactful technical solutions.
• History of making significant improvements in developer experience, team productivity, and system sustainability.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to influence stakeholders across various functions.
• Experience in coaching and developing senior engineering talent, and shaping hiring and development processes.
