About the role
The Compounding Lab Manager oversees daily operations within the pharmacy compounding labs, reporting directly to the Head Compounding Pharmacist. This role focuses on scaling compounding capabilities, developing new treatments, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage compounding technicians, including performance reviews, scheduling, and time management.
- Train staff on compounding equipment and laboratory processes.
- Serve as the technical expert for lab equipment and coordinate with suppliers and the Technical Services team.
- Collaborate with Quality Operations and the Pharmacist in Charge to maintain safety and quality standards.
- Maintain documentation for environmental controls, scale calibrations, and hood certifications.
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures are completed and updated with regulatory oversight.
- Staff non-sterile laboratories as needed.
- Monitor compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations.
Requirements
- Pharmacy Technician Certification.
- Prior experience in a compounding pharmacy.
- Knowledge of USP 795 and USP 800 standards.
- Proficiency with Computer Rx pharmacy software.
- Ability to lead projects, manage inventory, and train personnel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Practical notes
- This role requires working with Hazardous Drugs, necessitating the use of Personal Protective Equipment including gloves, gowns, and respiratory protection.
- Candidates must obtain medical clearance to wear negative or positive pressure respirators such as N95, full-face, or PAPR units.
- Physical requirements include standing for up to 100 percent of a 12-hour shift, walking up to 50 percent of the time, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
