About the role
Heron Power creates advanced power electronics to modernize the electrical grid and support the transition to renewable energy. We are seeking a senior technical leader to architect and manage the software systems that drive our manufacturing, supply chain, and internal operations.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and develop backend services, data pipelines, and internal tools that support our factory floor and supply chain operations.
- Define technical standards for system design, API development, and data modeling to ensure long-term scalability.
- Manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform or Pulumi to maintain secure and cost-efficient environments.
- Build and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions to improve deployment speed and safety.
- Oversee container orchestration and application deployment on Kubernetes.
- Implement observability and monitoring strategies using Prometheus and Grafana.
- Establish security protocols, including secrets management and access controls.
- Mentor team members, conduct design reviews, and provide technical guidance to raise the overall engineering quality.
Requirements
- Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including time at a Staff or Principal level managing large production systems.
- Proven ability to build and maintain backend services and distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, containerization, and Kubernetes.
- Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling.
- Knowledge of operational best practices, including monitoring, alerting, and security.
- Strong communication skills to lead cross-functional projects and align stakeholders.
- Experience independently driving ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives.
Nice to have
- Background in software for manufacturing, supply chain, hardware, or industrial systems like MES, WMS, or ERP.
- Experience building platforms or internal tools from the ground up in a startup environment.
- Skills in SQL, relational databases, data warehousing, and pipeline design.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message queues, and telemetry data.
- Advanced proficiency with Linux, command-line tools, and Git.
- Experience evaluating third-party SaaS solutions and making build-versus-buy decisions.
