About the role
Heron Power develops advanced power electronics hardware to support modern grid infrastructure and electrification. You will join our engineering team to design, model, and validate control systems for high-capacity power converters.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Convert system requirements into specific performance and control targets.
- Model converter topologies and collaborate with hardware engineers on design trade-offs.
- Develop controller architectures to meet dynamic performance goals.
- Implement designs using Matlab and Simulink.
- Conduct small-signal modeling to stabilize and tune controller responses.
- Evaluate electrical schematics to ensure robust signal acquisition and transient handling.
- Convert Simulink algorithms into embedded C code.
- Build and operate hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
- Assist in prototype bring-up, validation, and stress testing.
- Develop control behaviors for thermal, reliability, and compliance testing.
- Create control logic for end-of-line production testing.
- Analyze field data to improve performance and address failure modes.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor, Master, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Knowledge of basic power conversion topologies.
- Understanding of control systems and dynamic modeling.
- Capability to write and debug C code.
- Practical experience troubleshooting circuits.
Nice to have
- Background in grid-tied inverter design and controls.
- Familiarity with multi-level or modular architectures.
- Knowledge of grid-code standards like UL1741, IEEE1547, or IEEE2800.
- Experience with embedded software development and debugging.
- Exposure to high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of power system operation, modeling, and protection.
- Experience with PV systems, including arc-fault detection and MPPT.
