About the role
Heron Power is building power electronics for the modern grid to support renewable energy and storage. We are seeking an EHS Manager to lead safety strategy and compliance across our R&D, manufacturing, and field service operations. This role involves building a team and establishing safety culture within a fast-paced hardware environment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage site hazard mitigation, job hazard analyses, and safe work procedures for labs and manufacturing floors.
- Oversee field service safety, including pre-deployment briefings, hazard assessments, and PPE standards.
- Evaluate production equipment against ISO 13849-1 performance level requirements.
- Conduct arc flash boundary audits per NFPA 70E and manage corrective action workflows.
- Direct hazardous waste programs, including RCRA and California Title 22 compliance.
- Maintain chemical inventory, SDS libraries, and regulatory screening for production materials.
- Serve as the primary contact for Cal/OSHA, BAAQMD, and local fire authorities.
- Lead ergonomic assessments and emergency response planning, including NFPA 855 compliance.
- Develop and deliver training programs for arc flash, forklift operation, and fall protection.
- Track EHS metrics and lead incident investigations to drive continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
- 7+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, R&D, or energy technology.
- 2+ years of experience in a people-management or team-lead role.
- Knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8, 29 CFR 1910, NFPA 70E, RCRA, and California Title 22.
- Experience with job hazard analyses, arc flash studies, and site audits.
- Ability to manage SDS systems, waste manifests, and compliance calendars.
- Proven ability to build and develop EHS teams.
- Experience communicating safety priorities to executive leadership and external regulators.
Nice to have
- Experience with energy storage systems (BESS) or high-voltage power electronics.
- Familiarity with medium-voltage electrical safety up to 34.5 kV.
- Knowledge of NFPA 855, IEC 62368-1, or UL 9540.
- Professional certification such as CSP or CHMM.
- Experience with BAAQMD permitting and TRI reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and EHS management software.
- Familiarity with Cal/OSHA PSM requirements.
