In this pivotal position, you will lead the structural engineering team based in Everett, WA, concentrating on the design and implementation of advanced mechanical systems. What you'll do

• Lead the recruitment, mentorship, and professional development of a team comprising structural and mechanical engineers.
• Oversee the design processes for machine architecture, shielding mechanisms, and structural assemblies to ensure optimal performance.
• Make critical high-level design decisions related to neutron shielding, plant configurations, and primary structural elements.
• Enhance manufacturing processes and design workflows to boost project efficiency and throughput.
• Collaborate with various departments, including Science, Research, Controls, and Electrical, to establish requirements and achieve project milestones.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations throughout the design and manufacturing phases.
• Facilitate cross-functional meetings to align project goals and timelines with stakeholders.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with engineering projects, ensuring that all potential issues are addressed proactively.
• Drive innovation by encouraging the team to explore new technologies and methodologies in structural engineering.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes, decisions, and project outcomes for future reference.
• Act as a key representative of the engineering team in executive meetings, providing updates on project status and resource needs.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical or structural engineering is essential.
• At least 2 years of experience in a managerial role within an engineering context is necessary.
• Proven track record of hiring, managing, and nurturing engineering talent is required.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams with full project accountability is crucial.
• Demonstrated capability to manage complex projects while adhering to strict timelines is essential.
• Practical experience across various engineering disciplines, including thermal, mechanical, and large-scale structures, is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply first-principles and structured methodologies to solve technical challenges.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.

Nice to have

• Advanced degrees in Engineering or related fields are a plus.
• Familiarity with fusion energy systems or high-performance mechanical systems is advantageous.
• Experience with project management software and tools to streamline project tracking and reporting.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards in engineering design is beneficial.
• Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment can be an asset.
