What you'll do

• Independently create and manage VCF Automation blueprints, catalog items, and reusable components for standard platform services.
• Develop, test, and support Orchestrator workflows for provisioning, ongoing operations, and lifecycle management.
• Integrate automation services with ServiceNow catalog workflows, including approval models and operational handoffs.
• Implement and maintain GitOps-based delivery pipelines for infrastructure automation artifacts, ensuring validation, promotion, rollback, and auditability.
• Create and maintain platform APIs, service wrappers, and automation modules for internal users.
• Collaborate with platform, network, storage, and security engineers to adapt automation to infrastructure dependencies and policy requirements.
• Incorporate security measures such as RBAC, approval conditions, tagging, policy checks, and logging into self-service automation patterns.
• Contribute to the development of standards for testing, exception handling, secrets management, and operational supportability.
• Assist in root cause analysis and resolution of automation-related incidents and recurring issues.
• Provide mentorship to Engineer I staff on automation practices, troubleshooting, and documentation.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in infrastructure automation, platform engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, or similar roles.
• Proven experience with scripting and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
• Experience in developing or supporting REST APIs and integrating with enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
• Working knowledge of automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
• Understanding of IT service management and change control practices.
• Knowledge of basic cloud security principles, including least privilege, secrets management, logging, and policy-based access.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with VCF Automation / Aria Automation and Orchestrator in large enterprise environments.
• Experience integrating automation with ServiceNow service catalog and workflow logic.
• Familiarity with related VCF tools such as SDDC Manager, Aria Operations, NSX, or vSAN.
• Exposure to policy-as-code, drift detection, or automated compliance validation.
• Knowledge of Azure and/or AWS infrastructure concepts in a hybrid operating model.
• Relevant certifications such as VMware, Terraform, Azure, AWS, or other automation-related credentials.

Practical notes

This role requires on-site presence to support 24/7 operations, with standard working hours typically from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The position also necessitates scheduled on-call availability and responsiveness during off-hours for critical business continuity. The expected salary range for this position in Olympia, WA is between $72,660 and $103,800, depending on skills, experience, and education.
