About the role
Handshake is building AI systems to connect millions of students with career opportunities. You will join the Growth Relevance team to design and deploy models that manage user lifecycle, notifications, and monetization.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build and refine machine learning models that impact user engagement and platform monetization.
- Work alongside senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists to translate business goals into technical solutions.
- Participate in the full model development lifecycle, from initial experimentation to production deployment.
- Focus on improving ranking, personalization, and notification systems while maintaining high standards for fairness and explainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- 3 years of professional experience in data science or machine learning.
- Proficiency in Python and experience using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
- Solid understanding of fundamental ML principles including regression, classification, model evaluation, and ranking.
Nice to have
- Master degree or current enrollment in an advanced degree program.
- Background in deep learning, LLMs, NLP, or personalization systems.
- Experience with the end-to-end ML pipeline, including feature engineering, experiment tracking, and model monitoring.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
