Forward Deployed Engineer I

About the role

Handshake AI is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer I to build production-grade software that assists frontier AI labs in solving complex technical challenges. You will work within our India-based engineering team to develop and deploy solutions while collaborating with cross-functional partners in the US.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain software systems for customer deployments
• Work alongside senior engineers to deliver full-stack solutions
• Integrate input from Research, Product, and Operations teams to create scalable systems
• Develop applications using React and TypeScript
• Translate specific customer needs into reliable software architecture
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and modern backend development
• Practical knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL and API design
• Proven experience managing software in a production environment
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS or GCP
• Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous settings
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have

• Prior experience working with distributed teams, particularly those based in the US
• Background in customer-facing product development or implementation
• Exposure to machine learning infrastructure or AI-driven applications
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows
• History of working in high-growth startup environments
