About the role
HackerOne is looking for a Privacy Counsel to join our legal team and manage global data protection, AI governance, and commercial contracting. You will work across departments to provide practical legal guidance that supports product development, sales, and cross-border operations. This role is ideal for a lawyer who enjoys applying structured thinking to emerging technologies in a fast-paced environment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Conduct global privacy assessments including DPIAs, AI DPIAs, TIAs, and LIAs.
- Review new product features and AI capabilities to ensure privacy-by-design principles.
- Negotiate and draft data processing agreements, privacy terms, and commercial contracts.
- Maintain and update internal privacy policies, templates, and contractual documentation.
- Deliver internal training regarding privacy and AI governance.
- Coordinate privacy audits and work with external advisors to manage findings.
- Monitor global privacy laws and AI frameworks to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Use AI tools to improve drafting efficiency and research quality.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer (UK or EU) with 5+ years of PQE in-house or in private practice.
- Deep knowledge of UK/EU GDPR and familiarity with privacy laws in the US, Asia, and the Middle East.
- Experience managing data breaches, regulatory notifications, and audits.
- Proficiency in negotiating data processing agreements and commercial privacy terms.
- Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal business partners.
- Understanding of AI technologies, ethical implications, and relevant legal frameworks.
- Experience using privacy management software such as OneTrust.
Nice to have
- Certifications such as CIPP or AIGP.
- Fluency in German.
- Background in SaaS, cybersecurity, or offensive security.
