About the role
Help small businesses thrive by developing and scaling financial tools that simplify money management. You will contribute across the entire product lifecycle, from initial concepts to deployment and ongoing maintenance. This role involves enhancing existing products and building new offerings within Gusto's financial services.

- Create and scale products and services that power Gusto's business money and accounting experiences.
- Lead projects from start to finish, ensuring high standards for quality and performance.
- Implement the latest AI practices in all stages of product development.
- Work with various teams including Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Compliance, and Operations to solve complex problems.
- Foster a supportive environment that promotes innovation and productivity.
- Guide the product development process from initial idea to launch.
Requirements
- 8 or more years of professional software development experience.
- Background in designing, building, and testing large-scale, resilient distributed systems or software platforms.
- Skill in using AI tools and guiding a team in adopting modern AI practices.
- Ability to work effectively with unclear requirements and fast development cycles.
- Capacity to explain complex technical issues and help make informed trade-offs.
- Eagerness to collaborate with different departments.
- Talent and desire to simplify complex and ambiguous problems.
- Experience as a technical lead, overseeing the work of multiple engineers on projects lasting several quarters.
Nice to have
- Experience in the Fintech industry, building scalable backend systems for financial services.
- Familiarity with accounting, bookkeeping, tax, or financial reporting systems and accounting workflows.
- Knowledge of small business accounting or tax concepts like ledgers, reconciliations, financial statements, payroll accounting, or tax compliance.
- Experience with Ruby/Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, React, Typescript, AWS.

Practical notes
- Base salary for Denver and most remote locations is $163,000-$204,000.
- Base salary for San Francisco and New York is $197,000-$247,000.
- Stock equity (RSUs) is provided in addition to base pay.
- All full-time employees receive competitive benefits.
- A two-day trip to a Gusto office for onboarding is required.
- Employees in San Francisco, Denver, and New York City offices are expected to work from the office approximately 2-3 days per week.
