About the role
The Tax Accounts team manages the complex data and agency interactions required to keep small businesses compliant with tax regulations. You will build and maintain the systems that handle employer and employee tax data, ensuring accuracy across thousands of jurisdictions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement systems for agency registrations, power of attorney authorizations, tax notices, and filings.
- Develop automation, bots, and data pipelines to maintain accurate tax rates, deposit schedules, and account status.
- Translate complex, jurisdiction-specific compliance rules into reliable software models.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Tax Operations, and PEO teams to launch solutions for compliance challenges.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on large-scale, high-stakes projects.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience with a track record of staff-level technical leadership.
- Experience managing multi-quarter projects that solve complex engineering problems at scale.
- Background in designing data models and APIs for rules-heavy domains such as payments, tax, or compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to accelerate development and improve testing, with a commitment to sharing best practices.
- Strong communication skills for working with both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience with or interest in Ruby on Rails.
- Commitment to test-driven development and writing maintainable, well-documented code.
