About the role
Gusto seeks an experienced compliance professional to guide product compliance for its consumer financial products, commercial financial services, payments, and embedded finance offerings. This role involves strategic collaboration with various teams to develop and implement compliance solutions that support innovation and business growth. You will help shape AI-driven compliance workflows for monitoring, regulatory change, and risk identification.

What you'll do
- Partner with product, engineering, and business teams on financial services regulations for launches, partnerships, and marketing.
- Enhance Gusto's Compliance Management Program for new financial services and payments, utilizing AI tools.
- Manage regulatory changes with Government & Regulatory Affairs, using AI to track requirements and identify risks.
- Convert complex regulations into clear guidance, controls, procedures, training, and documentation.
- Oversee product compliance controls, including monitoring, testing, risk assessments, and issue management for various regulations (TILA, TISA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, UDAAP, Reg E, NACHA rules).
- Support vendor onboarding, third-party risk assessments, due diligence, and oversight for financial services partners.
- Act as a liaison with banking and strategic partners for audits, reporting, examinations, and inquiries.
- Collaborate on designing and applying AI-enabled workflows for compliance monitoring, testing, and documentation, ensuring human oversight.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of compliance experience in a legal, compliance, risk, or regulatory role at a financial institution, fintech, or payments company.
- Deep knowledge of financial services and payments compliance, including consumer protection regulations (TILA, TISA, ECOA, FCRA, FDCPA, Reg E, UDAAP, NACHA rules, TCPA, CAN-SPAM).
- Proven experience with embedded finance, banking-as-a-service, sponsor bank partnerships, payments, ACH, card programs, lending, or deposit products.
- History of building or improving compliance programs (policies, controls, monitoring, training, issue management, regulatory change management), including using AI for scalability.
- Experience advising product, engineering, marketing, legal, and operations teams on product launches and partnerships.
- Direct experience with banking partners, payment processors, auditors, or regulators, including supporting audits and examinations.
- Strong judgment and ability to interpret complex regulations into practical guidance.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Glean, Notion AI, or similar) to build scalable compliance workflows, with a focus on human review and quality controls.
Practical notes
Employees in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City offices are expected to work from the office approximately 2-3 days per week.
