About the role
Grow Therapy is a three-sided marketplace connecting patients, providers, and insurance companies to improve mental healthcare access. We are seeking a backend engineer to design and maintain the systems that facilitate these connections and support our rapid growth. You will work within a product-focused engineering organization to build scalable, reliable services that directly impact patient outcomes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Manage backend services and APIs from initial design through deployment and maintenance.
- Determine architectural strategy and provide technical structure for complex projects.
- Enhance core platform components, including business logic, service reliability, and data pipelines.
- Build and maintain systems for A/B testing and experimentation.
- Identify and fix issues related to performance, data accuracy, and system correctness.
- Produce clean, tested code and provide mentorship through technical reviews.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data teams to align technical execution with business goals.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on production backend systems.
- Expertise in API development, data modeling, and service design at scale.
- Experience building systems where performance, data integrity, and reliability are essential.
- Ability to navigate and provide clarity in ambiguous technical environments.
- Product-oriented mindset with an understanding of how code impacts user experience.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
- A bias toward ownership, speed, and continuous improvement.

Practical notes
This role requires working from our Seattle hub three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday) and involves 2-3 trips per year for company or department offsites.
