Senior SLT Test Engineer
Job description
About the role
Graphcore is seeking a technical expert to join the Product Test and Diagnosis Department. You will focus on creating and implementing system level test solutions for high-performance AI processors to ensure quality during manufacturing and silicon bring-up. This role requires a deep understanding of hardware validation methodologies and the ability to translate product specifications into rigorous test strategies. You will act as a key contributor in ensuring that silicon meets functional and performance targets before it reaches volume production. The position demands both independent execution and collaboration within a multidisciplinary engineering environment. You will be responsible for closing the loop between design intent and test execution on actual hardware. Success in this role will directly impact the yield and reliability of Graphcore's products.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Establish and maintain comprehensive test content, diagnostic tools, and characterization routines specifically for silicon bring-up and high-volume manufacturing.
- Execute voltage and frequency margining procedures, conduct rigorous reliability screening, and correlate performance results to drive actionable design improvements.
- Install, configure, and support complex test hardware including thermal solutions, precision sockets, advanced instrumentation, and custom test boards.
- Integrate validation workloads into the existing test environment and develop robust manufacturing screening processes to identify defects efficiently.
- Investigate hardware anomalies, perform detailed root-cause analysis, and work across ATE platforms, bench setups, and manufacturing systems to resolve issues.
- Develop scripts and software tools using modern languages to automate telemetry collection, control test execution, and generate clear data reports.
- Continuously enhance test coverage while optimizing test durations to reduce defects per million opportunities and accelerate manufacturing readiness.
- Liaise closely with Design, DFT, Silicon Validation, Product Engineering, and OSAT teams to align testing strategies and share critical insights.
- Mentor junior engineers, refine testing methodologies, and contribute to the technical direction of the test organization.
- Document procedures, results, and findings meticulously to ensure traceability and support future debugging efforts.
- Evaluate new test equipment and methodologies to incorporate industry best practices and emerging technologies.
- Support the qualification and ramp activities of new products by providing test solutions that scale to volume needs.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Possess a professional background in semiconductor validation, post-silicon bring-up, characterization, or manufacturing test roles.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of semiconductor principles, digital system behavior, signal integrity, and power delivery networks.
- Show familiarity with board-level troubleshooting techniques and electronic instrumentation used in debug scenarios.
- Understand fundamental DFT methods including JTAG, scan chain architectures, BIST, MBIST, and boundary scan implementations.
- Exhibit proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Tcl, Shell, or similar tools for data analysis, automation, and test control.
- Display strong analytical skills to perform root-cause analysis and interpret complex datasets from multiple sources.
- Have experience working effectively within cross-functional engineering groups and communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Commit to adhering to strict quality standards and safety protocols in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to follow detailed procedures while also applying creative problem-solving when standard methods are insufficient.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to shifting project requirements in a dynamic technical setting.
- Professional attitude toward documentation, version control, and configuration management of test assets.
Nice to have
- Background in high-performance computing architectures, chiplet designs, or advanced packaging technologies.
- Direct experience in manufacturing test environments and familiarity with production testing challenges.
