Accounting Lead

About the role

granola is seeking an Accounting Lead to establish and manage its internal accounting operations. This is the first in-house accounting hire, responsible for building scalable financial infrastructure for a growing AI-powered notepad company. The role involves hands-on work in financial systems and process design to support rapid expansion.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Oversee month-end closing and financial reporting.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and manage technical accounting.
• Handle audit, tax, and statutory compliance requirements.
• Manage multi-entity accounting and transfer pricing.
• Coordinate with external accounting, tax, and audit partners.
• Implement and manage accounting systems, including future ERP migrations.
• Improve quote-to-cash processes with Sales and Revenue Operations teams.
• Manage billing and payment operations, including Stripe-related accounting workflows.
• Develop the accounting function as granola expands.

Requirements

• 8-12 years of accounting experience in a fast-growing technology company, with increasing responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, technical accounting, and SaaS revenue recognition.
• Experience supporting multi-entity businesses and international operations.
• Familiarity with transfer pricing, intercompany accounting, and international tax.
• Solid understanding of billing systems and revenue operations.
• Proven operational instincts and a history of improving business processes beyond accounting.
• Experience collaborating with commercial teams like Sales, Revenue Operations, or Customer Success.
• A builder mentality and a willingness to engage with detailed work.

Nice to have

• Experience guiding a company through significant growth phases.
• Participation in or leadership of an accounting ERP migration.
• Ability to work with data directly and use SQL for investigations, validations, and business questions.
