About the role

GRAIL is focused on improving cancer survival rates through early detection technology. This position involves using machine learning and genomics to identify biological signals for cancer classification within the Computational Biology and Machine Learning team.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Design and manage projects focused on improving machine learning classifiers for cancer detection.
• Work with clinicians and engineers to plan and interpret experimental results.
• Write scalable, reproducible software using standard engineering practices.
• Use statistical and machine learning methods to create interpretable data outputs.
• Process large-scale genomics and sequencing datasets to find biological patterns.
• Build and test new machine learning models, including deep learning architectures.
• Present technical findings to internal groups and contribute to scientific publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Machine Learning, or related field with 2+ years of experience.
• M.S. with 4+ years of experience or B.S. with 6+ years of experience.
• 2+ years of professional or research experience in statistical modeling or machine learning.
• Proficiency in R or Python for data analysis.
• Understanding of modern statistical and machine learning techniques.
• Ability to write structured code in a collaborative setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with deep learning or LLM training and adaptation.
• Background in genomics or sequencing data analysis.
• History of scientific output such as patents, publications, or conference presentations.
• Proficiency in system-level languages like C, C++, Java, or Go.
• Familiarity with Linux environments, Git, and reproducible research workflows.
• Ability to manage independent projects while working across different teams.
