Software Engineer, Mobile

About the role

GovWell is seeking a Mobile Engineer to expand its mobile presence, which is currently in its early stages but actively used by real users. This role involves developing mobile applications for both government staff and citizens, enhancing their interactions with local government services. You will work directly with the CTO and Co-Founder, Ben Cohen, to scale the mobile platform.

What you'll do

• Develop a fast and reliable mobile experience for government field staff, optimized for real-world conditions.
• Ensure offline functionality so field staff can continue working without losing progress, even with lost connectivity.
• Create simple and direct mobile interfaces for residents to interact with local government, such as checking permit statuses or submitting applications.
• Establish the native mobile development standards and practices for GovWell's evolving product.
• Contribute to the future direction of mobile features, workflows, and the integration of staff and citizen experiences.

Requirements

• Proven experience delivering production mobile applications on iOS or Android.
• Comfortable making decisions in an ambiguous, rapidly growing product environment.
• Strong focus on user experience, including minimizing taps, optimizing load times, and considering users in challenging environments.
• Ability to contribute to product strategy and define what to build next, not just execute tasks.
