Senior Agentic AI Engineer
Job description
About the role
GoFundMe is actively searching for a senior engineer who will take ownership of the next generation of autonomous capabilities on our fundraising platform. In this role, you will design and deploy production-grade AI agents that can reason through complex donor scenarios and execute multi-step plans with minimal human intervention. You will own the orchestration layer that enables multiple AI agents to collaborate, delegate tasks, and share context in real time to improve campaign engagement and outcomes. The position requires you to translate high-level product goals into robust agentic workflows that are reliable, scalable, and measurable in a live environment. You will work closely with product, data, and design teams to prototype, test, and iterate on agent behaviors that directly impact user experience and fundraising performance. This is an opportunity to define best practices for agentic AI within a high-compliance, consumer-facing fintech environment. Your work will establish the foundation for intelligent, context-aware features that adapt to the unique needs of each campaign and supporter.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and deploy LLM-based agents capable of planning, tool-use, and task decomposition for critical fundraising workflows.
- Build and maintain orchestration frameworks for distributed microservices using tools such as LangGraph, Pydantic AI, Google ADK, and CrewAI.
- Implement robust agent-to-agent communication protocols, including the Model Context Protocol, to enable dynamic task delegation and context sharing.
- Develop cloud-native infrastructure using Docker and Kubernetes on AWS or GCP to ensure high availability and secure scaling of agent workloads.
- Architect memory systems using vector and graph databases to maintain long-term context across ongoing campaigns and user interactions.
- Create comprehensive evaluation pipelines for agent performance, incorporating automated testing, metrics collection, and human-in-the-loop governance.
- Establish safety guardrails and auditing mechanisms that ensure agent behavior remains fair, transparent, and aligned with platform policies.
- Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to integrate retrieval-augmented generation pipelines into agent decision-making processes.
- Optimize agent interactions for donor engagement, aiming to improve conversion rates, retention, and campaign completion metrics.
- Document agent behaviors, failure modes, and mitigation strategies to support operational reliability and cross-team knowledge sharing.
- Partner with product managers to define success criteria for new agentic features and validate outcomes through controlled experiments.
- Contribute to the evolution of the platform's AI standards by proposing patterns and guardrails based on real-world agent performance data.
- Support on-call responsibilities to troubleshoot production issues and refine agent responses based on live feedback.
- Explore emerging techniques in multi-agent systems and apply proven innovations to enhance platform capabilities.
Requirements
- You must have 6 or more years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
- You must have 3 or more years of hands-on experience designing and deploying production-grade AI or ML systems in live environments.
- You must demonstrate strong proficiency in both Python and TypeScript across multiple projects and codebases.
- You must possess deep knowledge of agentic architectures, including reasoning flows, multi-agent orchestration strategies, and RAG implementation patterns.
- You must have practical experience with vector databases such as Pinecone or ChromaDB and with knowledge graph technologies like Neo4j or Graphiti.
- You must have a solid background in cloud-native infrastructure, microservices design, and distributed systems operating at scale.
- You must understand agent safety, bias mitigation, and ethical design principles, and how to operationalize them in product features.
- You must be comfortable working in a high-compliance sector where data protection, transparency, and regulatory considerations are critical.
- You must have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in fast-paced, product-driven organizations.
- You must be able to interpret technical requirements and translate them into reliable agentic workflows with clear ownership.
- You must have a track record of writing clean, maintainable code and participating in code reviews across backend services.
- You must be comfortable using version control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
- You must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues in distributed agent systems.
- You must communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, aligning technical decisions with business goals.
Nice to have
- Experience working in fintech, fundraising, or other high-compliance sectors with strict regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with AI observability tools and established agentic evaluation strategies for measuring real-world performance.
- A history of contributing to open-source AI projects or active participation in developer communities that focus on agentic systems.
- A proven track record of integrating agent frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen into functional, production applications.
