Professional Services Technical Architect
Job description
About the role
You will define and own the technical direction of customer engagements from initial discovery through successful production adoption. You will design scalable and secure reference architectures for GitLab deployments across diverse environments while ensuring alignment with customer business objectives and contractual obligations. You will lead large-scale migrations using Congregate and oversee complex implementation work across distributed teams. You will act as a trusted DevOps and DevSecOps advisor, translating customer requirements into actionable implementation plans. You will create reusable assets that amplify the impact of Professional Services delivery across the organization. You will mentor consultants and partners to elevate the quality of service delivery and ensure consistent outcomes. This role operates in a fully remote, asynchronous environment where written communication and disciplined execution are paramount.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Designing and delivering GitLab reference architecture implementations for both self-managed and cloud environments, leveraging infrastructure as code practices to ensure consistency and repeatability.
- Leading source code management and CI/CD migrations to GitLab, orchestrating large-scale enterprise moves using Congregate while safeguarding data integrity and minimizing operational risk.
- Building and maintaining repeatable delivery kits, documentation, and enablement materials that equip Professional Services and partners to deploy and adopt GitLab best practices efficiently.
- Leading the full technical delivery lifecycle for GitLab Professional Services engagements, owning scoping, technical discovery, design validation, implementation, and smooth handoff to operations.
- Producing high-level and detailed technical designs for GitLab infrastructure and functionality, ensuring all deliverables meet stated customer requirements and anticipated operational expectations.
- Evaluating and articulating scalability, security, and compliance considerations within proposed architectures and implementation plans, including alignment with regulatory constraints.
- Deploying and configuring GitLab in customer environments across on-premises and major cloud providers using Terraform, Ansible, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit (GET) in strict alignment with reference architectures.
- Planning and executing source system migrations to GitLab using Congregate, collaborating closely with customer stakeholders to reduce risk, preserve data fidelity, and minimize service interruption.
- Providing DevOps and DevSecOps consulting and best-practice guidance, advising on internal frameworks such as the Delivery Governance Framework (DGF) and GitLab Flow to standardize delivery patterns.
- Coordinating and overseeing cross-functional implementation efforts involving GitLab team members, external partners, and customer points of contact, ensuring clear asynchronous communication and effective decision capture.
- Mentoring Professional Services and partner consultants by contributing reusable collateral, conducting enablement sessions, and coaching on positioning and delivery of service offerings.
- Driving continuous improvement in service offerings by capturing lessons learned, updating playbooks, and refining delivery assets to enhance future engagements.
- Acting as a technical liaison between customer stakeholders and delivery teams to resolve complex implementation challenges and unblock critical path activities.
- Ensuring all proposed solutions adhere to GitLab platform capabilities, operational constraints, and long-term product roadmap considerations.
