About the role
You will join the Tenant Scale: Git team to enhance the core repository infrastructure used by millions of developers. This role involves direct contributions to the upstream Git project and the Gitaly service to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Participate in architectural planning and technical decision-making for Git and Gitaly.
- Write and submit code, bug fixes, and performance enhancements to the upstream Git project.
- Adapt Gitaly to utilize new Git capabilities, focusing on long-term maintainability and system efficiency.
- Align open source community discussions with internal product requirements and engineering goals.
- Scope technical tasks, estimate project timelines, and document implementation strategies.
- Validate features through testing to ensure production stability and minimize regressions.
- Engage with the broader Git ecosystem and maintain professional relationships with open source contributors.
Requirements
- Proficiency in writing and testing production-grade C code.
- Knowledge of Git internals, including data structures and source code, or experience managing Git servers.
- Experience with Go for backend engineering.
- Understanding of Linux internals such as filesystems, memory management, and I/O.
- History of contributing to open source projects or working within public collaboration environments.
- Experience building instrumented and observable software systems.
Nice to have
- Background in distributed systems, storage formats, or graph theory.
- Experience working in high-availability production environments.
- Transferable skills in infrastructure or backend development.
