Senior Backend Engineer at GitLab.
About the role
Join the AI Events team to build the infrastructure that powers GitLab Duo Flows. You will design the trigger systems that enable AI agents to perform automated tasks across the software development lifecycle.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and develop the trigger system that links GitLab and third-party events to AI-powered Duo Flows.
- Maintain the core event platform infrastructure to ensure high availability and throughput.
- Manage event processing for code pushes, merge requests, CI/CD results, deployments, and external integrations like Jira, Jenkins, and Slack.
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to define future trigger capabilities.
- Work within the Rails monolith while coordinating with other AI Engineering teams.
- Participate in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations for production and security issues.
Requirements
- Professional experience with Ruby and Rails in a large-scale production environment.
- Proven ability to integrate large language models into user-facing software.
- Experience designing and operating high-throughput, highly available distributed systems.
- Practical knowledge of agentic systems and building autonomous AI workflows.
- Strong written communication skills for an asynchronous, remote work environment.
