What you'll do
- Conduct thorough analyses of business challenges to assess whether AI is a suitable solution, mapping out workflows and identifying potential limitations.
- Oversee AI projects from their inception and design phases through to execution and continuous improvement.
- Rapidly develop and implement AI-driven tools, concentrating on delivering practical results and quantifiable business benefits.
- Improve organizational productivity by creating solutions that eliminate bottlenecks and enhance output, evaluated through flow metrics and adoption rates.
- Seamlessly integrate AI functionalities into existing systems using APIs and orchestration tools, including the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.
- Serve as an early adopter of GitLab's AI products, providing valuable feedback to the research and development team based on real-world application.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to grasp their primary challenges and ensure alignment on expected outcomes.
- Establish and track success metrics using business and flow metrics, creating feedback loops for ongoing enhancement.
- Contribute to the technical strategy of the team by assessing tools, documenting best practices, and developing reusable components.
Requirements
- Strong technical skills with a passion for both established and emerging technologies.
- Proven ability to build comprehensive solutions, write clean and maintainable code, and troubleshoot effectively.
- Proficiency in prompt engineering, covering system prompts, context management, multi-turn conversations, and systematic evaluation.
- Knowledge of model selection, cost-performance trade-offs, and architectural decisions such as RAG versus larger context windows.
- Familiarity with agentic architecture patterns, tool utilization, multi-agent systems, human-in-the-loop designs, guardrails, and reliability frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with LLM ecosystems, including models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and various open-source options.
- Strong focus on AI safety and risk management, designing and implementing effective guardrails to mitigate misuse and unintended outcomes.
- Apply systems thinking and diagnostic rigor to complex processes, identifying constraints and root causes before suggesting solutions.
- Familiarity with enterprise business systems such as CRM (Salesforce), marketing automation (Marketo), support platforms (Zendesk), and integration tools (Workato).
- Broad functional knowledge to effectively engage with stakeholders across different domains.
- Demonstrated history of taking ownership of complex projects from start to finish, achieving measurable results independently.
- Possess a product-oriented mindset, capable of defining MVPs, prioritizing tasks, and delivering iteratively with a focus on user experience and business impact.
- Proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) and experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the GitLab platform and CI/CD workflows.
- Background in consulting, solutions engineering, or roles that involve direct customer interaction.
- Knowledge of value stream mapping, flow metrics, or the Theory of Constraints.
- Experience with low-code/no-code orchestration tools such as n8n, Make, or Workato.
- Previous work experience in a startup or rapidly growing company environment.
- Experience mentoring or leading technical projects involving junior engineers.
