About the role
GH Engage is seeking a mechanical engineer to join their specialist consultancy team focused on mission-critical infrastructure. You will apply Computational Fluid Dynamics to solve complex thermal and airflow challenges for high-performance data center environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and verify CFD models to evaluate thermal and airflow behavior in critical facilities.
- Perform simulations regarding heat transfer, air movement, liquid cooling, and pressure profiles.
- Analyze cooling system efficiency for both IT rooms and external plant infrastructure.
- Study external factors including air recirculation, wind patterns, and heat impacts.
- Convert simulation data into actionable engineering advice to boost resilience and efficiency.
- Collaborate with electrical, architectural, and mechanical departments on design decisions.
- Write technical reports and presentations detailing your modeling methods and results.
- Optimize containment strategies, cooling concepts, and equipment layouts.
- Build and update standard CFD templates and equipment libraries.
- Ensure all designs meet industry standards for mission-critical facilities.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience performing CFD analysis in HVAC, building services, or mission-critical sectors.
- Proficiency with Cadence or comparable industry-standard CFD software.
- Knowledge of data center cooling, including water-based and air-based systems.
- Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and HVAC principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, layouts, and engineering drawings.
- Capacity to manage multiple modeling tasks and communicate findings to various stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
- Experience with colocation, hyperscale, or mission-critical infrastructure.
- Familiarity with liquid cooling or high-density computing environments.
