About the role
GEICO is looking for a Distinguished Engineer to lead the evolution of our data center networking infrastructure. This position will be instrumental in shaping the architecture that supports our Private Cloud, AI/ML initiatives, and enterprise applications. You will be the primary technical authority for network design and automation, ensuring that our systems are both efficient and secure.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and implement a long-term vision for GEICO's data center network architecture.
- Create standards and reference models for cloud networking and network security.
- Spearhead modernization efforts and automation initiatives within the network infrastructure.
- Design large-scale network architectures that support virtualization and containerization.
- Oversee the creation of software-defined networking capabilities for both private and hybrid cloud environments.
- Collaborate with various teams to ensure integrated solutions for cloud networking.
- Lead initiatives to enhance network performance and security, including Zero Trust architectures.
- Mentor senior engineers and guide technical discussions across teams.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of experience in networking, infrastructure, or cloud engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years in designing enterprise or hyperscale network architectures.
- In-depth knowledge of Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols such as BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, ECMP, MPLS, and OSPF.
- Experience with software-defined networking and cloud environments.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Go, Python, C/C++, Rust, or Java.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems and distributed architectures.
- Proven capability in troubleshooting complex network issues and implementing observability practices.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring technical staff.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with SmartNICs, DPUs, and open networking technologies.
- Experience with AI/ML and high-performance computing networking environments.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps methodologies.
- Advanced degree or relevant certifications in a technical field.
Skills & tools
- Expertise in data center networking architectures and large-scale design.
- Strong software development skills for automation and API integration.
- Familiarity with OpenStack networking services and Kubernetes networking models.
- Understanding of observability and monitoring tools for network performance.
Practical notes
Annual Salary: $140,000.00 - $300,000.00
