About the role
Garage is building an automated platform to modernize how essential industries purchase mission-critical equipment. As the Strategic Finance Lead, you will report to the CEO and establish the financial infrastructure required to scale our high-volume marketplace.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain the primary operating model, covering GMV, take rates, gross margins, cash flow, and headcount planning.
- Translate raw transaction data into actionable financial metrics for founders and investors.
- Lead recurring planning cycles, including budget allocation and growth strategy assessments.
- Manage liquidity, runway, and working capital requirements.
- Create board-ready reporting packages and assist with fundraising and due diligence.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Lead to ensure financial actuals align with operational planning.
- Identify and execute on initiatives to improve capital efficiency and operating margins.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in strategic finance, FP&A, investment banking, private equity, consulting, or high-growth operations.
- Expert-level financial modeling skills, including the ability to build unit economics and scenario analyses from the ground up.
- Deep familiarity with startup metrics such as CAC, payback periods, burn rates, and contribution margins.
- Proven ability to partner with executive leadership on resource allocation and strategic decision-making.
- Strong analytical judgment and the ability to provide clear recommendations despite incomplete data.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment as an early team member.
Nice to have
- Background in marketplaces, fintech, logistics, or government technology.
- Prior experience at a venture-backed startup during the Seed to Series B growth stages.
- Experience with investor relations, including board reporting and data room management.
- Familiarity with finance and spend management tools like Ramp or Carta.
