Founding Design Engineer

About the role

Garage is building a platform to simplify the procurement of essential industrial assets, replacing slow manual processes with automated transactions. We are looking for a design-focused engineer to help us maintain a high-quality user experience as we scale our operations across the United States.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Develop and deploy polished, production-ready interfaces for our core platform and mobile applications.
• Handle UI implementation including typography, responsive layouts, motion, and micro-interactions using Tailwind CSS.
• Build and maintain shared UI components, design tokens, and interface patterns.
• Write code across the stack using React, Next.js, and TypeScript to ensure fast and reliable user experiences.
• Prioritize accessibility, performance, and long-term maintainability in every feature.
• Participate in design critiques and code reviews to establish high engineering standards.

Requirements

• Proven experience working with React, Next.js, Tailwind, and TypeScript in live production environments.
• Advanced CSS capabilities with a track record of creating pixel-perfect and resilient interfaces.
• A portfolio showcasing high-quality frontend work or design engineering projects.
• Ability to bridge the gap between design, product, and engineering.
• A systems-oriented mindset and a desire to work directly with customers.

Nice to have

• At least 4 years of professional experience.
• Previous experience as an early engineer or technical co-founder at a Series A, B, or C startup.
