Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to develop comprehensive MEP designs for various projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct detailed calculations and simulations to optimize the performance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring they are energy-efficient and cost-effective.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for MEP systems, utilizing industry-standard software tools to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in project meetings and presentations, effectively communicating design concepts and solutions to stakeholders, including clients and project teams.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing conditions and verify that installations adhere to design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in MEP engineering to continuously enhance design processes and outcomes.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development and ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and cost estimates, contributing to the overall success of the business development efforts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues that arise during the construction phase, collaborating with contractors to implement effective solutions.
- Ensure that all designs comply with local, state, and federal codes, as well as sustainability standards, to promote environmentally responsible engineering practices.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and adherence to project timelines.
- Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to create integrated designs that enhance collaboration and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in MEP design and engineering, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant tools for MEP design.
- Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations related to MEP systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative solutions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Experience with energy modeling and sustainability practices is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies is a plus.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Experience working with LEED certification processes and sustainable design practices.
- Knowledge of advanced MEP technologies, such as smart building systems and IoT applications.
- Familiarity with construction management software and tools.
- Previous experience in a remote work environment is advantageous.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other MEP design software.
- Strong analytical skills for conducting system performance evaluations and energy modeling.
- Familiarity with BIM technology and its application in MEP design.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
